Jay Cutler is still training seven days a week and makes it look easy. On May 13, 2025, he shared a three-exercise late-night back workout in Vegas.
A four-time Mr. Olympia, Jay Cutler emerged as one of the biggest stars in the IFBB Pro League. He’s best known for his battles with Ronnie Coleman, along with winning back the Mr. Olympia title after losing it in 2008. After leaving the sport behind competitively, he hasn’t stopped hitting the gym, which he’s long credited as his ‘savior’ in life.
At 51 years old, Cutler continues to make training his top priority. While he’s dealt with setbacks recently, like a biceps tear, that hasn’t prevented him from pushing the pace—even with a busy traveling schedule.

Reverse Grip Pulldown
Cutler starts with the reverse grip pulldown as he appreciates how it mimics the front double biceps pose.
“The famous Jay Cutler always starting exercise is the reverse grip pulldowns. You know, I always did these to mimic the front double biceps with this.”
During his trip to Boston, Cutler revealed that he tore a few fibers in his arm and had body work done to repair it.
“I get a nice pull on the lats,” he shared. “I have a little bruising still. I popped something and I don’t know what it is. I had a little strain, I had Cory, my therapist, work it out a little bit. Next thing you know, I get in the gym when I was in Boston for the Cutler Classic, and I’m doing a row and pop, I felt some fibers tear. I didn’t tear the bicep but I tore something. Those seven days a week of training caught up to me a little bit.”
Dumbbell Rows (Supinated)
Before hitting dumbbell rows, he shared insight into his typical meal plan in retirement. He said he mostly sticks with the basics: chicken and rice, steak and rice, ground hamburger or turkey.
“Most of the meals I eat are chicken and rice or steak and rice or something that is more consistent, ground hamburger, ground turkey meat. I just try to keep it as consistent as possible and that’s really what keeps me flowing in everything that I do.”
Reverse Row Machine
Cutler’s last exercise before cardio was the reverse row machine, which he said emulates the famous Dorian Yates row.
“This I’ll do three sets, 10 reps or so,” he explained. “This is kind of the Dorian Yates row.”
In his spare time, Cutler joined seven-time Olympia champ Phil Heath for a posedown. Cutler and ‘The Gift’ both showed off their abs and leg definition, proving that longevity and long-lasting health are alive and well in the sport.
Cutler doesn’t miss a training day at 51 years old, and it shows. He continues to help shape the next generation of IFBB Pros that follow in his footsteps.
