Brian Johnson, well known as Liver King, is coming clean about his use of performance-enhancing drugs/steroids after a leaked email exposed his cycle. In a recent YouTube video, Liver King apologized for lying about his PED use and said he’s ashamed for misleading people about the controversial topic.
“I have only myself to blame. I did that and it was all wrong. I will be better,” Liver King said while coming clean about his steroid use.
Liver King exploded in popularity over the past year. He routinely consumes raw organ meat and lives by the nine ancestral tenets, which are made up of various practices that promote healthy living, community, and family. In addition to his unconventional diet, Johnson sports a ripped physique, and for quite some time, claimed his body was all natural.
He appeared on various podcasts and platforms to spread his message of ancestral living while denying the use of steroids. For months, Joe Rogan went back and forth with the fitness star and suggested he was ‘full of steroids.’ Johnson denied those claims on a number of occasions but continued to push Rogan to have him on the podcast for a productive dialogue. Suffice to say, their collaboration never came to fruition.
Earlier this week, Derek of the More Plates More Dates YouTube Channel dropped a bombshell on the fitness community. He released an hour-long exposé examining Liver King’s natty or not status. Leaked emails were brought up in the video, which listed Johnson’s alleged full cycle. Many were surprised to realize the social media star was spending upwards of $11,000 USD on growth hormone monthly.
Days after his alleged cycle went public, Liver King issued a response with the Rolling Stones. He mentioned that in a ‘weird way’ he’s grateful for the recent events. While his response was limited at the time, Liver King is now addressing the topic again and coming clean after consistent lies about being natural.
‘Embarrassed’ Liver King Comes Clean: ‘I Fu**ed Up, Yes I’ve Done Steroids’
During the video released on Thursday, December 1, 2022, Liver king issued a formal statement regarding his use of PEDs/steroids.
“Primals, I’m making this video to apologize because I fucked up. Because I’m embarrassed and ashamed. Because I lied and I misled a lot of people. I stated that this is a complicated as fuck topic at least for me it is. Before social media, I was rich and anonymous and after social media, I’m still rich but no longer anonymous. I never expected this kind of exposure in the public eye. It’s been tricky as fuck to navigate.
Well, clearly, I did it wrong. and I’m here now to set the record straight. Yes. I’ve done steroids and yes, I’m on steroids monitored and managed by a trained hormone clinician. Liver King the public figure was an experiment to spread the message. To bring awareness to the 4,000 people a day that kill themselves,” said Liver King.
According to Johnson, he convinced himself that taking steroids didn’t affect his ancestral message. He added that his natty or not discussions were supposed to be a ‘placeholder’ for a more important conversation. Given that many teenagers look up to Johnson, he felt lying about steroids would send the wrong message to the young generation he’s inspired.
“While spreading the message, I’ve been on several podcasts. And when asked if I’ve ever taken steroids, I’ve always said no. I don’t touch the stuff. Not going to touch the stuff. Never touched the stuff. That was a lie. I’ve convinced myself that this had nothing to do with the ancestral message. I convinced myself that I’m not a competitive athlete of any kind so who the fuck am I cheating?”
I convinced myself that this topic was a placeholder for a far more important conversation. I convinced myself that this would overshadow the 36 years of working out usually twice a day without PEDs. I’ve convinced myself that this was the vocal minority usually in the fitness category driving to an unproductive conversation. I convinced myself this would be the wrong message to send to the 15-year-old boys,” says Liver King.
In light of the recent events, Liver King only blames himself. However, he does believe there’s a time and place for ‘pharmacological intervention’ when building a physique.
“So I continually dismissed it and dug myself into a deeper and deeper hole,” says Johnson. “I will talk about it openly because I believe there’s a time and a place for pharmacological intervention monitored and managed by a trained hormone physician.”
“I have tried them [steroids] in the past without success. Yes. It’s also true my blood chemistry got all fucked up while taking nandrolone and Winstrol. My lipids got all deranged. My liver enzymes went sky-high, which is why clinical oversight is an absolute must. Nope. The Liver King brand has had nothing or at least little to do with my business success. My companies were already kicking ass, already successful before the Liver King public figure.”
Amid the confession, Liver King owned up to his mistakes.
“I fully own that I fucked up. All I can do is take extreme ownership right now and be better and lead myself to a better life as a human,” says Liver King.
The last time fans heard from Liver King, former UFC/Bellator champion Eddie Alvarez unearthed a conversation they had together. While their discussion took place a year ago, ‘The Underground King’ accused Johnson of using an ‘awful lot’ of steroids and growth hormone. In response, Liver King told the MMA veteran that he had never cheated or taken a shortcut in his life.
Given his wildly successful line of supplements, many in the fitness sector are unsure of what’s next for Brian Johnson. In the months to come, Liver King hopes to earn the public’s trust back after openly admitting to steroid use.
