Army AFT standards by sex and age group
Choose a standard, a sex and an age group to see that group's table. To score your own results, use the Army Fitness Test (AFT) calculator.
General standard for men aged 22 to 26
Points for each result on the general standard, scored by age and sex. Lift at least the weight shown, do at least the push-ups shown and hold the plank at least as long as shown; for the sprint-drag-carry and the 2-mile run, finish in the time shown or faster. A blank cell means that score is not available for that event. The line under the 60-point row marks the minimum for every event.

How the Army AFT is scored
Each of the five events scores from 0 to 100 points on a scale set by age group, and on the general standard by sex as well. There are 10 age groups: the youngest is 17 to 21 and the oldest 62 and over. Your total is the sum of the events, out of 500.
A passing score needs at least 60 points in every event and a total of at least 300 on the general standard or 350 on the combat standard.
General and combat standards
The two standards use the same events and the same tables. They differ in who takes them, which column scores you and the total you need.
| Rule | General standard | Combat standard |
|---|---|---|
| Who takes it | Soldiers outside the 24 combat specialties | Soldiers in the 24 combat specialties |
| Scoring table | By age and sex | By age; men and women both use the men's scale |
| Minimum total | 300 of 500 | 350 of 500 |
| In force since | 1 June 2025 | 1 January 2026, Regular Army, AGR, and Reserve Component soldiers on active duty orders of more than 60 days 1 June 2026, other Reserve Component soldiers |
How each Army AFT event is tested
The AFT kept five of the six ACFT events. The Army dropped the standing power throw because of its technical nature and injury risk.
- 3-repetition maximum deadliftDeadlift the heaviest weight you can, three times, on a 60-pound hex bar with plates. The weight in pounds sets your score.
- Hand-release push-upDo as many as you can in two minutes. At the bottom of each rep you lie flat and move both arms straight out to the sides before you push up again. The front leaning rest is the only rest position.
- Sprint-drag-carryFive 50-meter shuttles against the clock: a sprint, a sled drag, a lateral, a kettlebell carry and a final sprint. The sled weighs 90 pounds and the two kettlebells 40 pounds each.
- PlankHold a forearm plank in a straight line from head to heels for as long as you can. The grader gives one warning; if you cannot correct your position, the event ends.
- 2-mile runRun 2 miles on a track or an improved surface such as a road or sidewalk; the Army does not allow unimproved terrain. Out-and-back and lap courses both count.
- Alternate aerobic eventsA soldier with a permanent profile takes every event the profile allows. In place of the run, the scoring tables list a 2.5-mile walk, a 12-kilometer bike, a 1-kilometer swim and a 5-kilometer row, each scored GO or NO-GO against a time limit, with no points.
Army body composition standard
The Army checks body composition separately from the AFT, with the waist-to-height ratio: your waist divided by your height.
- Waist-to-height ratioA WHtR below 0.55 meets the standard. The ratio is read to three decimals and truncated, so 0.549 passes and 0.550 fails. WHtR is the only body composition measure: the tape test and the height and weight tables were rescinded.
- How it is measuredWaist at the navel. Not stated in AD 2026-13 or the army.mil FAQ; DoWI 1308.03 rounds both measurements down to the nearest half inch.
Army AFT standards questions
Do men and women have the same AFT standards?
On the general standard, no: each age group has a men’s column and a women’s column, except on the plank, where the two columns match. On the combat standard, yes: every soldier is scored on the men’s column for their age.
Who has to meet the combat standard?
Every soldier who holds one of the 24 combat specialties, such as infantry, armor, special forces and combat engineers, whatever their assignment. A soldier in a combat specialty who meets the general standard but misses the combat standard is subject to reclassification.
How often do soldiers take the AFT for record?
Regular Army and AGR soldiers, and Reserve Component soldiers on active duty orders of more than 60 days, pass two record AFTs a year, at least 4 months apart. Other Reserve Component soldiers pass one a year, at least 8 months apart. Since April 2026, soldiers in combat specialties in the Regular Army, the AGR or on active duty orders of 365 days or more take one AFT and one Combat Field Test for record each year.
How long do I have to retest after a failed AFT?
You must pass a record AFT within 90 days if you serve in the Regular Army, the AGR or on Reserve orders of more than 60 days. Other National Guard and Reserve soldiers have 180 days.
What is the Combat Field Test?
A separate pass or fail test for the 24 combat specialties, held to one standard for every age and sex. In 30 minutes or less you run a mile, do 30 dead-stop push-ups, sprint 100 meters, lift a 40-pound sandbag onto a 65-inch platform 16 times, carry two 40-pound water cans 50 meters, complete a 50-meter movement drill and run a second mile. It does not replace the AFT, and a failed CFT brings no adverse administrative action during the first 365 days.
What if I have a permanent profile?
You take every event your profile allows and need a GO on the alternate aerobic event if you take one. In a combat specialty you also need an average of 70 points across the events you take, for example 280 over four events.
