Golden Era icon Tom Platz is still getting after it at 69 years old. In a recent Instagram post shared on May 27, 2025, he smashed intense T-bar row reps just a few weeks out from his birthday.
Platz is a living legend in the sport of bodybuilding. He reached incredible heights as a Pro and was constantly tested by top-tier athletes, including former seven-time Mr. Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger, Franco Columbu, and Samir Bannout.
Having won the Mr. Universe contest in 1980, Platz picked up many impressive accolades during his time in the Men’s Open. His highest placing at the Mr. Olympia event came in 1981, where he secured third place behind Chris Dickerson and Columbu.
He’s revered for his ripped leg size and definition. These are attributes that Platz worked incredibly hard to maintain for decades. Stories about his workouts still resonate with fans today. Even bodybuilding veteran Lee Priest can attest to his dedication. He remembers training legs alongside Platz and said late that night, he felt like he was having a heart attack. Despite getting older, Platz’s training intensity and devotion to his physique still burn strong.

Tom Platz Still Training Back With Intensity at 69: “Sometimes You Just Gotta Go There!”
In the recent Instagram post, Platz smashed intense T-bar rows and expressed disappointment in individuals who break their commitment to the gym.
“Sometimes you just gotta go there!
Nothing disappoints me more… than leaving the gym, knowing that I still have some left to spend.
Other recent disappointments, how so many are losers in and out of the gym. Own up to your commitments, people! Your words mean nothing.” Tom Platz shared.
Tom Platz isn’t the only big-name bodybuilder still making gym gains. Dorian Yates, a former six-time Mr. Olympia, showed off his upper body strength by maxing out the weight stack on the pec deck machine.
Additionally, Lee Labrada has also gone to great lengths to retain his ripped physique in retirement. He showcased his shredded quad definition in side-by-side photos that spanned nearly 40 years. The inaugural Arnold Classic titleholder, Rich Gaspari, also makes it a point to keep low body fat year-round, and shocked fans with his diced six-pack.
Even years after stepping away from the sport competitively, Platz is dedicated to his intense workout regimen. He continues to serve as one of the sport’s most notable ambassadors.
