Many people go through their teenage years without managing to develop any significant level of strength. However, that is not the case with Eleuterio Montalvo, as the young athlete left many fans awestruck by his recent performance. The 18-year-old powerlifter competed at the 2023 USAPL High School Nationals, which took place on April 4th. After a full day of mind-blowing feats, Eleuterio Montalvo finished up with a 868.5-kilogram (1,914.7 pounds) Total. Having competed in the 125-kilogram weight class, Eleuterio Montalvo set the Third Heaviest All-Time Raw Total in the Teen 18-19 division.

Not only is Eleuterio Montalvo’s achievement impressive, but it is also worth noting that he competes as a drug-tested athlete, which adds to the significance of his accomplishment. The use of PEDs is not uncommon even with teen powerlifters, but Eleuterio has stayed away from these substances.

So, it’s easy to see why even some of the greatest powerlifters in the world found Eleuterio Montalvo’s recent performance absolutely mind-blowing. One of those athletes is Andy Huang, who has also left his mark in powerlifting on a few occasions. Andy gave props to Eleuterio Montalvo, and even put him in the same sentence as John Haack.

“There are those who are more gifted for certain things, add in passion, work ethic, and discipline and you get freaks like John Haack or this quiet teenager [Eleuterio Montalvo] who’s gonna out total me before he can legally drink.”

Eleuterio Montalvo’s Full Performance

Eleuterio Montalvo scored new competition PRs in all four events, improving each one by a significant margin. However, the most notable take away from his performance was his Total, which is now the Third Heaviest of All-Time in the U125KG Teen 18-19 division.

The only two powerlifters who have previously totaled more than Eleuterio Montalvo in this division are Larry Wheels (891.3 kilograms / 1,965 pounds) and Corentin Clément (870 kilograms / 1,918 pounds). However, Eleuterio is inching closer to both of these athletes and will likely outperform them in the next year or so.
