Julius Maddox is known as one the greatest bench pressers in history, and has a resume to prove it. However, his bench press power has also carried over well to the overhead press, as per his recent Instagram post. In the video, Maddox can be seen performing a raw seated shoulder press of 260 kilograms (573.2 pounds) in front of none other than the legendary bodybuilder, Ronnie Coleman, in presence.

Julius Maddox did not initially plan on going as heavy on the seated shoulder press. But, having found himself in such an electrifying environment and with Ronnie Coleman present, he gained the strength and energy to complete one of the heaviest presses in history.

Julius Maddox completed his 260-kilogram (573.2-pound) Seated Press raw, only using a pair of wrist wraps to take care of his joints. While preparing for the lift, Maddox was motivated by Ronnie Coleman’s iconic phrases, including “yeah buddy” and “lightweight baby”. His lift did not start off well, as he lost a bit of balance on the bench, but he still persevered and locked out the huge press, impressing everyone in the gym, including Ronnie Coleman, who displayed a massive smile and a look of respect.

Although there are no official rankings, Julius Maddox’s 260-kilogram (573.2-pound) lift is potentially the heaviest Raw Seated Press ever performed. That makes him one of the greatest overhead presses in the world, along with Cheick ‘Iron Biby’ Sanou.

Julius Maddox mostly focuses on the bench press, which obviously carries over well to the seated press. However, it was still wildly impressive to see him lock out such a humongous weight, as he might be the only one capable of it. Iron Biby has done more, but he used a pair of elbow sleeves and an axle press. So, it is hard to compare their feats.

Moreover, Julius Maddox’s lift on the seated press also shows that his strength is improving, which is extremely positive news as he is chasing to become the first man to bench press 800 pounds (362.9 pounds) in an official competition. He has already attempted the lift multiple times and failed, but has shown that it is definitely a realistic goal.

As far as his powerlifting career goes, Julius Maddox has never performed a squat or a deadlift in an official competition. So, all 18 of his appearances were in bench-only sanctioned meets. Unsurprisingly, Julius won all of them.

Julius Maddox is now overhead pressing more weight than the majority of people could lift in any way, which is a testament to just how incredibly strong he is. Hopefully this seated press helps him achieve the 800-pound (362,9 pounds) bench press.
