Larry Wheels isn’t lacking strength after rebounding from a string of recent bodybuilding contests. In an Instagram post published on January 16, 2024, Wheels returned to his vintage self with a gritty seated dumbbell shoulder press PR of 400 pounds.

As a powerlifting phenom, Wheels’ strength is on constant display, whether he’s cranking out 405-pound bench presses or training alongside top-tier Men’s Open competitors like Andrew Jacked. He has built an online empire off of his impressive feats inside the gym, boasting nearly three million YouTube subscribers.

Larry Wheels decided to quit all performance-enhancing drugs except testosterone replacement therapy and pursue a bodybuilding career. His last season concluded with an impressive second-place showing at the 2023 Amateur Olympia contest. As a result of his efforts, judge Terrick El Guindy made it clear Wheels had the potential to shock the world with a few tweaks to his physique.

Following the performance, Wheels gained a total of 55 pounds in two days, which he labeled an unofficial world record. Even though lifting has taken a back seat for bodybuilding as of late, Wheels made time to crush another PR, this time on the dumbbell shoulder press.

Wheels has imminent powerlifting plans now, which he sandwiched in the middle of his bodybuilding journey. He announced his participation in powerlifting legend C.T. Fletcher’s Iron Wars VIII, which is slated to take place on January 19. In preparation for the event, Wheels showcased his strength with a 700-pound deadlift for 21 reps

Aside from his powerlifting endeavors, Larry Wheels has continued to collaborate with rising fitness influencers. One of his most recent outings saw him joined by the ‘Kendall Jenner of Bodybuilding’ Vladislava Galagan. The pair teamed up to destroy a taxing shoulder training session and also discussed their experiences using performance-enhancing drugs.

Having once suffered from depression and low self-esteem, Larry Wheels admits the gym saved him. Specifically, Wheels credits the gym for helping him stay out of trouble when he was younger and more impressionable. Even while juggling life as a powerlifter, bodybuilder, and arm wrestler, Wheels continues to test himself with new challenges.

Larry Wheels’ latest lift is a reminder that he has retained much of his strength since venturing into the world of bodybuilding. Hopefully, in time, he can achieve the long-sought-after and elusive 1,000-pound deadlift.
