Mr. Olympia History
Every edition from 1965 to 2026. How the title has moved, which reigns lasted, and how close the finals really were.
Every title stays in its own lane
Olympia history is grouped by year and division so Men's Open, 212, Classic Physique, Ms. Olympia, Bikini, Figure, Wellness, and other tracks do not collapse into one generic title count.
- Divisions counts the current championship tracks. Titles awarded counts one overall champion per division per year. In the years the Olympia also judged weight classes, the class winners appear on the year cards but are not counted as titles.
- Men's 212 Olympia wins are tracked separately from Men's Open titles.
- Duplicate rows from multiple historical sources are deduped by athlete, year, division, and placement.
- Modern IFBB Pro source priority starts with NPC News Online, with historical sources filling older eras.

Longest reigns
Consecutive titles in one division. A missed year ends a run even when the same athlete wins again later, which is what makes these streaks rather than career totals.

How often the Men's Open title moves
The Men's Open title has changed hands 23 times in 62 editions. Only 4 champions have won it back after losing it: Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1980, Franco Columbu in 1981, Jay Cutler in 2009, Derek Lunsford in 2025.
The last 8 editions produced 6 champions. The 22 editions from 1984 to 2005 produced just 3.
Closest Men's Open finals
Margin is the gap between the champion's and the runner-up's judging totals, so a lower number is a tighter show.
| Year | Champion | Runner-up | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 | Nick Walker | Samson Dauda | 2 |
| 2025 | Derek Lunsford | Hadi Choopan | 2 |
| 2024 | Samson Dauda | Hadi Choopan | 3 |
| 2022 | Hadi Choopan | Derek Lunsford | 4 |
| 2018 | Shawn Rhoden | Phil Heath | 4 |
Scorecards are on record for 2010 to 2026, 17 editions. Earlier finals are not ranked here because their scores were never published.
How old the Men's Open champion is
The youngest Mr. Olympia was 23: Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1970. The oldest was 43: Chris Dickerson in 1982 and Shawn Rhoden in 2018.
| Decade | Editions | Average age |
|---|---|---|
| 1960s | 5 | 27.2 |
| 1970s | 10 | 29.6 |
| 1980s | 10 | 30.9 |
| 1990s | 10 | 32.7 |
| 2000s | 10 | 37.3 |
| 2010s | 10 | 36.2 |
| 2020s | 7 | 34.3 |
Age is the difference between contest year and birth year. Olympia dates in the corpus are recorded to the year, so these are ages in the year of the win rather than on show day.
Most Olympia appearances
Counted in years on stage, not result rows, so entering two divisions in one year is still one appearance.
| Athlete | Appearances | Years | Longest run | Olympia titles |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dexter Jackson | 21 | 1999 to 2020 | 15 straight, 2006 to 2020 | 1 |
| David Henry | 15 | 2005 to 2020 | 9 straight, 2012 to 2020 | 0 |
| Ronnie Coleman | 15 | 1992 to 2007 | 14 straight, 1994 to 2007 | 8 |
| Albert Beckles | 14 | 1974 to 1991 | 8 straight, 1982 to 1989 | 0 |
| Brandon Curry | 14 | 2011 to 2026 | 12 straight, 2015 to 2026 | 1 |
| Ashley Kaltwasser | 13 | 2013 to 2026 | 9 straight, 2018 to 2026 | 3 |
| Darrem Charles | 13 | 1995 to 2017 | 9 straight, 2001 to 2009 | 0 |
| Iris Kyle | 13 | 1999 to 2014 | 11 straight, 2004 to 2014 | 10 |
The oldest man on this list to compete at an Olympia was Albert Beckles, 61 in 1991 by the birth year on record. Title counts follow the same rule as the rest of this page, so a 212 Olympia title is counted on its own track and does not appear in this column.
