The 2025 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships took place on January 26th and featured countless World Records from the most elite powerlifters in the world. One that was particularly notable came from Amanda Lawrence. The US representative competed as a U84KG lifter, where she had a goal of setting new standards. Well, Amanda managed to set a new 269-kilogram (593-pound) raw deadlift IPF World Record after an incredible grind.
Amanda Lawrence encountered a few setbacks on the squat and bench press, having missed her final attempts on both events. Luckily, when it came to deadlifting, she ended up putting in an incredible effort. Amanda opened up with a comfortable pull at 237.5 kilograms (523.6 pounds), deciding to spare some energy for the later attempts. In turn, a few minutes later, Amanda came out and made easy work of a 255-kilogram (562.1-pound) deadlift.
Amanda Lawrence still had one lift to wrap up the day, and she decided to leave everything on the competition floor. So, she loaded a weight of 269 kilograms (593 pounds), which would exceed the Deadlift World Record. After a short physical and mental preparation, Amanda came out and set up a sumo stance combined with a mixed grip. She started pulling as hard as she could, quickly getting the barbell above her knees. However, the lockout turned out to be quite a struggle, as Amanda spent multiple seconds trying to finish the lift. She persisted and ended up completing the deadlift and setting a new World Record.
*Amanda Lawrence held the previous U84KG IPF Raw Deadlift World Record of 268.5-kg (591.9-lb), which she set at the 2023 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships.
