In the U.S. circuits, Dutch powerlifter Iris Scholten is not a super well known commodity. However that may start changing as the world champion seems to be turning a corner in her training, that is sure to translate to her competition.

27-year old Scholten has begun to string together some performances on the platform that is worthy of turning heads. The three-time winner of the Dutch Classic Powerlifting Championships has not yet competed outside of Europe. However she did begin to emerge as a prospect late last year, when she scored 9th at the World Classic, followed by 5th at the European Classic, demonstrating some promise but having a lot of room to grow.

It seems like Iris Scholten is getting serious about improving her game. This was shown big time with a recent post to her Instagram. The training session included her going 4×4 with a 358lb squat and 226lb bench. But what struck a chord with us most, was the 63kg powerlifter’s ability to score a whopping 419lb deadlift, matching her PR with a sumo grip.

“Squat: 162.5kg x 4×4
Bench: 102.5kg x 4×4
Deadlift: 190kg single (equals sumo PB) #grind
☀️ 🥵 💦”

While Iris is clearly working on her overall game, she has been absolutely killing it with her deadlift game. This is a direct product of the high rep work that she has been doing in the gym. Here she is just a few days earlier, pulling some major reps with 363.7lb, showing just how much she is focusing on her technique.

There is clearly still a lot of room for Iris Scholten to keep working on her skills. However she seems utterly focused on improving, and seems primed to deliver some of her best work yet, when she takes to her next competition. If she keeps on this track, she is sure to be one of the top lifters in her division.
