First, Vissers discusses his weight and nutritional plan for contest prep.
“This morning, I weighed my lowest yet, 110.6 kilos. I sent the shape to Stefan and it’s the best shape so far for sure. I mean, I’ve never had lines in my glutes like this which is always a positive thing.
“Now, today is going to be a normal food day because Friday is the show, and Thursday is the weigh-ins, but Wednesday might already be a day where I’m going to load up. So, if I would already eat more carbs today which is Monday, I might increase my weight a little too much to be able to load up on Wednesday. You do want that super compensation effect to happen which is first depleting and then filling up with carbs.”
“We still need to train of course.”
In between exercises, Vissers explains his training intensity.
“Just like the chest workout of yesterday, not going to the max, simply going only towards stimulating the muscle, feeling if the reps are slowing down, meaning you get closer to failure and that’s when you stop because you already stimulated the muscle.”
Next, Wesley Vissers talked about his focus on great stretches and contractions.
“It’s a nice way to finish off the biceps. Got a great stretch but also a great contraction. I move from two arms to one arm to get a better concentration because it’s kind of also like a concentration curl. We focus on that squeeze for the biceps. I’m going to do two more sets of this and we are done” Vissers added.
“Done with the back, rear delt, and bicep workout. Got quite a nice pump. Not too extreme, only did a few sets of biceps, a couple of easy movements for the back and one for the rear delts.”
For Vissers, he always de-loads on peak weeks for contests.
“I would say, well this is actually a de-load week, peak week should always be a de-load week. You’re using about 80% of the load you would normally use and about 60% of the volume maybe if that.”
“Stimulating the muscle, keeping the blood flow going, making sure the muscles stays in tact without sucking myself too much down. I need to be dominant on stage. We can only carb-load for maybe two days if that.”
Before calling it a day, Vissers poses in front of his coach, steadily perfecting his presentation for the big event:
Recently, Wesley Vissers hit the gym with fellow rival Urs Kalecinski to knock out a vicious back workout. Kalecinski is looking to push past reigning Classic Physique 2023 Arnold Classic champion Ramon Rocha Queiroz with his added size and attention to detail.
Fans can look forward to watching the explosive showdown this weekend February 29 through March 3 in Columbus, Ohio. The 2024 Arnold Classic will be streaming online for free and Fitness Volt has provided everything you need on how to watch the event.
