Chris Bumstead Deadly Leg Workout

As Chris Bumstead continues to ease his way back into training after the 2022 Olympia, torn bicep and everything that came with it, he is keeping a great company in the gym. CBum recently tackled a leg day workout with fellow bodybuilder Brett Wilkin and LeanBeefPatty and posted the video of the workout on his YouTube channel.

Bumstead is one of the most popular active bodybuilders. The Canadian IFBB Pro has ruled the Classic Physique division with a firm grip for four years. He won the Classic Physique Olympia title in 2019 and then successfully defended it in 2020, 2021 and 2022. The fact that he went into the 2022 Olympia with a torn bicep and still managed to keep hungry young contenders at bay makes his recent win that much special.

Having recovered completely from the injury, CBum is now ramping up the training. While he intends to retire soon, the 28-year-old wants to secure a few more Olympia wins.

Bumstead’s training partner in his recent workout, Brett Wilkin, is a bright prospect. He earned the IFBB Pro card in the Classic Physique division. However, the Iowa native made the Pro bodybuilding debut in the 212 division. Following a couple of humbling performances, Wilkin took time off from competition and returned in the Men’s Open division at the 2021 Chicago Pro and secured a runner-up finish at the show.

However, the 34-year-old could not build on the momentum in 2022. He finished sixth at the 2022 Arnold Classic and concluded the 2022 competitive season with a runner-up finish at the 2022 Romania Muscle Fest Pro.

The bodybuilder duo was joined by famous fitness influencer, social media star and TikToker LeanBeefPatty for the leg workout. The unique trio went through the leg training session with intensity. But they also had a lot of fun along the way. So, let’s see what all they did in the training session.

Machine Hip Adduction

The trio started the training session with machine hip adduction. This isolation movement works the hip adductor group of muscles that lie on the inner side of the thigh. Together, the four muscles in this group are responsible for bringing the legs together. Additionally, the adductors play a secondary role in hip flexion and rotation. CBum and company performed a few sets of this movement to warm up the lower body. Following this, they took to the next warm-up exercise.

Single Leg Extensions

Quadriceps / quads are one of the most prominent muscles in the lower body. Leg extensions are a potent exercise to isolate them. The training partners performed this exercise unilaterally to really focus on the movement and get the blood flowing into the quads for the heavy compound movements that followed.

Seated Leg Curls

Knees are one of the most crucial joints for lower body movements and it is of utmost importance to warm them up sufficiently in the beginning of the workout to improve mobility and reduce the chances of injury. Seated leg curls, which is a hamstrings isolation movement, is also an excellent way of warming up the knee joint without putting a lot of stress on them. Bumstead, Wilkin and Patty pushed through a few sets of this movement in a playful manner before taking to the first heavy compound movement of the day next.

Leg Press

Leg press is a compound movement that involves simultaneous hip flexion, knee extension and ankle plantar flexion. It is a worthy replacement to squats for building strong and muscular legs. However, that does not mean squats should be omitted from the workout altogether. This compound movement works all the major muscle groups in the lower body including quads, hamstrings, hip abductors and adductors as well as glutes.

Bumstead, Wilkin and Patty started with warm-up sets using relatively moderate weights. After doing the working sets with incrementally heavier weights, they took to the next exercise.

Machine Squats

The training partners jumped into the second compound movement of the day next and did machine squats on the Power Squat Pro machine. They cranked out a few heavy sets of the exercise with slow and controlled movements before taking up the final exercise of the training session.

Lying Leg Curls

This hamstrings isolation exercise served as the finisher to Bumstead, Wilkin and Patty’s leg training session. They pushed through a few sets of the movement and called it a day in the gym.

Overall, the workout included:

  • Machine Hip Adduction
  • Single Leg Extensions
  • Seated Leg Curls
  • Leg Press
  • Machine Squats
  • Lying Leg Curls

Chris Bumstead, Brett Wilkin and LeanBeefPatty all bring a lot of interesting content for their fans on a regular basis. It is a great source of motivation for the fans to see them train together.
