Powerlifter Jessica Buettner is getting a hold of things as her next competition comes closer. She is fine-tuning the little details in training, which took her squat abilities to a whole new level. In a training session on April 30th, Jessica Buettner claimed a massive 220 kg (485 lbs) squat PR. Not only is it her new PR, but Jessica’s lift is also an Unofficial IPF World Record in the 76 kg weight class. She only used a lifting belt, knee sleeves, and wrist wraps, making her lift raw.

Jessica Buettner absolutely demolished the current record, which is also claimed by her. Jessica set the current IPF World Record at the 2021 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships by squatting 210.5 kg (464 lbs). So Jessica’s new PR is 9.5 kg (21 lbs) heavier than the record.

Jessica Buettner also had the honor of setting her new PR in front of the 4x Mr. Olympia, Jay Cutler. Jay was visibly impressed while watching Jessica Buettner’s final warm-up of 217.5 kg (479.5 lbs). He also shared her new PR on his Instagram stories, and simply stated “Easy”.

You can watch Jessica Buettner’s squat PR here:

“I had two squat singles to do NOT at RPE 10, which is why I only went up 2.5kgs on the second. VERY HARD to ignore the urge to load 500lbs, but I didn’t want to overdo it… I will say this is the easiest a squat PR has ever felt, and I regret not loading 4 reds.”

Jessica Buettner will first compete at the 2022 CPU Canadian Nationals, which will take place from May 9-14, 2022 in St. Johns. Just four weeks after that, she will take part in the 2022 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships in South Africa.

Jessica Buettner has already won the Canadian Nationals five times, so she will try to add one more title to her resume. Jessica is also the reigning 2021 IPF World Champion, and will try to win the competition for a second consecutive year. She seems to be in outstanding shape, having beaten the majority of her PRs in training.

Jessica Buettner’s Current Raw Competition PRs

  • Squat: 210.5 kg (464.1 lbs) IPF World Record (2021 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships)
  • Bench Press: 105 kg (231.5 lbs) (2021 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships)
  • Deadlift: 250 kg (551.2 lbs) (2020 CPU Nationals)
  • Total: 563 kg (1241.2 lbs) IPF World Record (2021 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships)

Jessica Buettner’s recent squat PR means that she is aiming to further improve her current World Record. She already holds IPF World Records in the 76 kg weight class, and the IPF Deadlift World Record in the Juniors 76 kg weight class as well.  Bodybuilding legend Jay Cutler was also blown away by Jessica’s strength and she now hopes to squat 500 lbs.
