The 2021 World’s Strongest Man takes place in Sacramento, California, from June 15th-20th. This is a breakdown and recap of all the action, as the strongmen compete in the biggest competition in the sport.
This year’s WSM moved from Florida to California, where the temperature has surpassed the triple digits. This has led to a variety of complicating factors with the equipment, and has made the whole situation challenging for the athletes.
There have also been a handful of withdrawals from the contest too, beginning with Graham Hicks pulling out before the competition began. After that though, we saw Chris van der Linde get sick and pull out, Luke Richardson tear a bicep, and Terry Hollands get injured and retire from WSM.

Log Lift
The last day of the 2021 WSM Finals is the Log Lift event, done for max weight. Athletes begin with logs set at 170kg, and increase the weight with each rep from there.
Heading into the event, there were a few athletes looking to set new American and world records in this event. In the end, Luke Stoltman ended the event on top, but was 2.5kg shy of Bobby Thompson’s 217.5kg American Record.
- Luke Stoltman – 215kg (10 points)

Prior to the event, Bobby Thompson was forced to withdraw from the Finals. However that had no effect on the outcome of this iconic event, as Tom Stoltman would win the event, ending the contest with the title of World’s Strongest Man.

2021 WSM Day Four (Finals Day One) Results
This year’s WSM had three days of Qualifying Rounds, before the top ten strongmen advanced to the two-day Finals. After those three hard days of competition, athletes got to rest and recover on Friday, before getting back to action on Saturday.
The first day of the Finals saw three events taking place: the Giants Medley, the Titan’s Turntable, and a REIGN Keg Toss. This is the first year that we will see the Titan’s Turntable event, which has the strongmen pushing an antique train on a rotating platform.
Check out the event results from Day Four of the 2021 WSM:
Giants Medley
The Giants Medley left the athletes having to do a 440kg (970lb) yoke for 10 meters, followed by a 350kg (772lb) frame carry for 15 meters. Athletes are scored for time.
This was an extremely close event, with the top five athletes finishing in a range of less than five seconds from one another. In the end, Tom Stoltman would breeze through the competition though, finishing two seconds faster than second place winner Konstantine Janashia.
- Tom Stoltman – 0:18:36 (10 points)
- Konstantine Janashia – 0:20:31 (9 points)
- Brian Shaw – 0:20:53 (8 points)
- Luke Stoltman – 0:20:72 (7 points)
- JF Caron – 0:21:31 (6 points)
- Adam Bishop – 0:22:39 (5 points)
- Bobby Thompson – 0:25:06 (4 points)
- Maxime Boudreault – 0:31:43 (3 points)
- Trey Mitchell – 0:45:61 (2 points)
- Eythor Ingolfsson Melsted – DNF, 10m in 0:12:75 (1 point)
Titan’s Turntable
The Titan’s Turnable is a new event at the 2021 World’s Strongest Man. Here the athletes are required to push a 19th century JW Bowker steam engine, sitting on top of a California State Railroad Museum Turntable, 160 degrees which equates to roughly 30 meters, being scored for time with a 75 second limit.
Again, we would see Tom Stoltman absolutely annihilate the competition. He came in nearly 6 seconds faster at the Titan’s Turntable than the second place competitor, continuing his strong showing on the first day of Finals.
- Tom Stoltman – 0:46:89 (10 points)
- Trey Mitchell – 0:52:34 (9 points)
- Eythor Ingolfsson Melsted – 0:52:83 (8 points)
- Maxime Boudreault – 0:55:16 (7 points)
- Luke Stoltman – 0:55:94 (6 points)
- Brian Shaw – 0:56:73 (5 points)
- Adam Bishop – 0:57:78 (4 points)
- JF Caron – 0:57:84 (3 points)
- Konstantine Janashia – 1:00:15 (2 points)
- Bobby Thompson – 1:02:31 (1 point)
REIGN Keg Toss
The third and final event for Day Four of the 2021 WSM is the Keg Toss. The Strongmen throw a 15kg (33lb) keg as high as they can, and over a platform. The platform increases in heigh from 5.75m, to 6.5m, before 6.75m, then 7m, before ending on 7.3m, which would break the current world record of 7.2m that belongs to Brian Shaw.
This event turned out to be a battle between the top four competitors, but in the end Brian Shaw set a new Keg Toss world record at 7.75 meters. This surpassed his previously held record by half of a meter.
- Brian Shaw – 7.75 meters (10 points)
- Tom Stoltman – (8.5 points)
- Maxime Boudreault – 7.5 meters (8.5 points)
- Konstantine Janashia – 7.26 meters (7 points)
- Eythor Ingolfsson Melsted – 6.75 meters (4 points)
- Luke Stoltman – 6.75 meters (4 points)
- Adam Bishop – 6.75 meters (4 points)
- JF Caron – 6.75 meters (4 points)
- Bobby Thompson – 6.75 meters (4 points)

2021 WSM Day Three Results
The third and final day of the qualifying rounds for the 2021 World’s Strongest Man had two events: an Overhead Press Medley, and a Pickaxe Hold. From there, the second and third place athletes in each group faced each other in an Atlas Stone-Off, for one last chance to make it to the Finals.
There were a lot of impressive and shocking performances during these events, with perhaps the most surprising being that 2020 winner Oleksii Novikov did not make the Finals. Of course, when you look at how intense the competition was in his group, that comes as title surprise.

2021 WSM Day Two Results
Day Two of the 2021 WSM featured two events, but they are two of the biggest fan-favorites… or at least that was supposed to be the case. The Fingal’s Fingers went ahead as planned, with a ton of impressive showings.
However things got a bit more complicated with what was originally supposed to be a Train Pull event. The extreme heat in Cali made the brakes of the train car continuously lock up, forcing a change to be made on the fly, turning the event from a train pull to a train push.
Check out the event results from Day Two of the 2021 WSM:
