About Our Strength Standards

Our strength standards are derived from the OpenPowerlifting database, containing over 2.5 million verified competition results from sanctioned powerlifting meets worldwide. Unlike self-reported data, every number comes from a judged competition lift.

The three competition lifts (squat, bench press, deadlift) use direct competition data. All other exercises use ratio-based derivation from competition lifts using well-established strength ratios from peer-reviewed research and coaching literature. Each derived exercise page shows the exact ratio and base lift used.

Each exercise page shows percentile-based tiers (Beginner through Elite) broken down by IPF weight class and sex. You can also use the interactive calculator to find your exact percentile ranking.
